Make a difference by joining Camp Fire’s Rural Alaska Program



The 2017 Rural Alaska Program will travel to 29 villages across the state from the Aleutians to the Arctic Circle, offering youth the chance to experience our dynamic summer day camp program in their local community.


Position Description: Staff develop and implement quality youth and community programming. Activities include swimming, cold-water safety, outdoor education, creative arts, games, cooking, and sports. Evening activities focus on teen and elder involvement and include potlucks, campfires, storytelling, and more!

Staff should have demonstrated cultural sensitivity, experience working with at-risk or underserved youth, and bring a focus on community service. We are looking for individuals with an aptitude to be flexible, adaptive, and motivated to work productively as a member of a team.


Season Dates: May 22-August 2, includes two weeks of paid training in Anchorage followed by programming in rural communities all across Alaska. (Hiring positions through the end of May.)


Pay Rate: Minimum season compensation $4,500 plus room and board, plus a $350 airfare stipend.


Requirements: Current Lifeguard Certification Required (Camp Fire Alaska provides a course May 16th-19th for those needing certification); Experience working with youth; Minimum age 21 preferred; BA in education, outdoor recreation, anthropology/sociology, or other related fields preferred.
