Challenger, Pathfinder and Teen Trek Sessions include
a
1 1/2 hour
Kenai River
float trip!
Pathfinder
6-Day/5 Night, Ages 8-14
|
|

|
Pathfinder sessions are designed to provide more opportunities for the
older school age camper to explore new and exciting interests while
still practicing old favorites. Up to 8 campers are assigned to
each counselor, and this “home group” lives together
in a dorm style cabin with another home group. Each home group
eats meals together and plans and participates in camp activities
as a small group. Pathfinder maintains the low camper to staff
ratio, ensuring that each camper feels comfortable and known in
their group while also helping each child set and reach personal
goals throughout the week.
There will also be opportunities for
campers to make individual activity choices, leaving
the home group to explore and meet new camp friends
under the careful guidance of camp staff. Home groups
will plan a tent camping overnight in or around camp,
providing a great opportunity for campers to learn
minimum impact camping skills, how to work together
as a team, and to plan and prepare their meals.
Session activities include:
Canoeing and kayaking, swimming and sauna, arts and crafts, nature
awareness, outdoor living skills, archery, cooperative games, all
camp activities, evening camp fire programming and more! Each cabin
group will also have the opportunity for a 1 ½ hour float
trip on the world famous Kenai River!
Horse
trail ride and lesson available to campers attending
this session for an additional fee.

Explorer
4-Day/3 Night, Ages 6-12
|
|
|
The
Explorer program is designed especially to introduce our youngest
campers to safe
and fun outdoor resident camp activities. With a low camper to
staff ratio, camp counselors give each child the individual attention
needed to make friends, have fun and to develop new skills. Up
to 8 campers are assigned to each counselor, and this “home
group” lives together in a dorm style cabin with another
home group. Each home group eats meals together and plans and
participates in camp activities as a small group. There will
also be opportunities for campers to make individual activity
choices, leaving the home group to explore and meet new camp
friends under the careful guidance of camp staff.
Session activities include:
Arts and Crafts, Nature Awareness, Cooperative Games, Outdoor
Skills, Beginning Canoeing and Water Safety, Swimming and
Sauna, Archery, Theme Weeks, evening camp fire programs and
much more! Explorer campers will also plan an in-camp sleep
out with their home group the last night of camp. A cook
out dinner, s’mores and more will be a part of this
fun introduction to tent camping.

Challenger
10 Day/9 Night, Ages 10-16
|
|
|
The
Challenger 10 day session is packed full of exciting opportunities
for middle and high school youth. The
low camper to staff ratio allows counselors to work closely with
campers in planning the session’s activities, setting personal
goals and making sure that all feel a strong sense of community.
Up to 8 campers are assigned to each counselor, and this “home
group” lives together in a dorm style cabin with another
home group. Each home group eats meals together and plans and
participates in camp activities as a small group. There will
also be several opportunities for campers to make individual
activity choices, leaving the home group to explore and meet
new friends.
Challenger campers also plan a one or two night out of camp trip
with their home group. Groups can choose a hiking or canoeing
expedition that will be accompanied by appropriately certified
program staff. Campers must work well as a team while planning
their route, preparing their gear, learning minimum impact camping
skills, animal awareness and safety, first aid and general camp
craft. All of these experiences are under the guidance of their
home group counselor and the trip staff. Providing a safe experience
that is challenging and fun is always a priority.
Session activities include:
Swimming and sauna, kayaking and canoeing, day hikes, target
sports like archery and riflery, outdoor living skills, cooperative
games focusing on leadership development, camping expedition
trip, arts and crafts, nature awareness, evening programs, and
all camp activities! All Challenger campers have the opportunity
for a 1 ½ hour float trip on the world famous Kenai River!
Horse trail ride and lesson available to campers attending
this session for an additional fee.

Teen
Trek, Ages
14-17 |
|

This multi-day expedition away from Camp
K on Kenai Lake provides the perfect venue for teens to learn
new outdoor skills,
gain confidence, and become a better leader in a community
atmosphere. Teens help plan a multi-day backpacking expedition
with the guidance of trained and qualified outdoor recreation
specialists! They will learn the process of trip planning
and coordination and have several opportunities to learn
new skills such as backcountry travel preparation, packing
techniques, proper gear, stove use, map reading, backcountry
cooking, and Leave No Trace techniques! Teens don’t
need to be experienced backpackers to do this course. There
will be plenty of time to become comfortable with the gear
and master new skills!
This trip will also focus on leadership skills and cooperative
learning. To be successful teens will need to work together,
maintain positive attitudes while overcoming adversity, and
lead their peers during assigned activities through the careful
mentoring of staff. Only 10 teens will be able to participate
in this exciting opportunity. A staff team of two will be present
to guide teens throughout the expedition! To complete their
week, teens will get to celebrate with a 1 ½ hour float
trip on the world famous Kenai River!
