MARKETING AND DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE provides high level administrative support for all areas of Camp Fire's Marketing and Development functions.  Includes primary responsibility for management of department's data and reporting; maintains effective relationships with donors, board members, volunteers, staff, community partners and general public.  Coordinates events and meetings; manages volunteer participation and assists with development and publication of marketing and informational materials for the agency.

 School Year Program Jobs
The School Age Child Care Programs provide licensed before -and after-school child care for elementary youth in 28 elementary schools in Anchorage and 3 in Fairbanks. The programs continue throughout the summer, providing full-day programs in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Staff may choose to work before school, after school, or both.


The Community Center Programs are year round neighborhood-based after and/or before school programs. Staff hours at all programs include set-up, clean up, planning, and training time, which may occur outside of actual hours of operation. There are 4 centers in Anchorage and 2 in Fairbanks.

Job Descriptions:

Site Director

These positions are management level positions responsible for activity and program development, data management, staff and environment development and community relations. We are looking for candidates who have previous experience with youth development, supervision and program delivery. Must be have or be willing to achieve 12 credit hours in the youth development field and be 21 years or older. Salary range is $14.03 - $15.78.

Program Staff
Part-time, up to 30 hours per week. Staff may work before school only, after school only, or both. Responsible for implementing the program with an assigned group of children. Qualifications: Prefer high school/GED graduate, some training or background in child/youth development, education or recreation. Experience working with children. Must be 18 years of age or older. Starting Salary: $10.26 per hour.

Child Development Leader
These positions are supporting management positions responsible for managing a quality program in the absence of the Site Director.  We are looking for candidates who are seeking experience in an entry level management position in a youth development program. Must be have or be willing to achieve 12 credit hours in the youth development field and be 21 years or older. Salary range is $11.56 - $14.43.

Program Aide
Part-time positions for high school students. Training includes working with children, program planning and management, and leadership skills. Qualifications: 16 - 18 years of age, demonstrated leadership and organizational ability, prefer child development classes and some experience caring for children. Starting Salary: $7.67 per hour.

 



2010 Summer Outdoor Program Jobs


Summer staff at Camp Kushtaka.

 

Camp Fire offers seasonal summer camp employment at Camp Kushtaka (resident camp on Kenai Lake), Camp Si-La-Meo (day camp in Anchorage) or the Rural Alaska Program (water safety/remote day camp). Through these outdoor programs, children are provided with the support and opportunities needed to become caring, confident youth and future leaders. Community living, away from home in a recreational outdoor setting provides a foundation for tremendous growth for campers and staff alike.
Camp Kushtaka: Rustic and beautiful resident camp located 100 miles south of Anchorage on the shores of Kenai Lake in Cooper Landing. Summer positions are available in all areas of camp from the kitchen to cabin counselors. All positions include room and board and scheduled days off.

Kitchen Manager/Cook: is responsible for daily management of the camp kitchen and supervision of two kitchen assistants. Duties include menu planning, food ordering, inventory control, kitchen health and sanitation and cooking nutritious and appealing foodsfor campers and staff. Must have current CFPM certification.
Salary: $4,500


Kitchen Assistants (2): are responsible for the daily routines of running an effective food service environment. Duties include dishwashing, cleaning and sanitization of food service areas, assisting with food preparation and helping unload, store and inventory supplies.
Salary: $2,300


Camp Nurse/EMT: is responsible for the management of the camp health plan, including reviewing camper health histories, dispensing medications, coordinating with camp staff and local physicians to manage camper care, responding to first aid needs at camp, and maintaining the health facility and equipment in excellent condition. Current RN certification for the State of Alaska is required, as well as first aid and CPR.
Salary: $4,000 - $6,000 DOE and Certification/Licensure.


Program Manager:
is responsible for program scheduling, assists in the supervision of camp staff and in the planning and presentation of staff orientation, large group events and special programs including planning and instructing the Counselor in Training program. This position requires an applicant who has demonstrated skills in camp organization and supervision, and is at least 21 years old. Current first aid and CPR is required.
Salary: $3,500


Waterfront Specialist: is responsible for life guarding and instructing canoeing, kayaking and swimming activities on Kenai Lake. Duties include coordinating with other camp staff to provide a variety of camp activities including off site trips, and assisting in the supervision and monitoring of cabins and campers. This position requires current Life Guard or Water Safety Instructor certification as well as Small Craft certification and previous experience supervising lakefront and/or cold water activities. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older. Current first aid and CPR is required.
Salary: $2,500



Out of Camp Trips Director: is responsible for coordinating with camp staff and counselors all out of camp trips schedules, to provide additional camper supervision during off site trips, for operating camp vehicles to provide transportation to and from off site activities and to make off site trips for supply purchasing and in-town errands. Duties also include the maintenance and record keeping of camp vehicles, and the instruction and monitoring of proper vehicle safety and assisting in the supervision and monitoring of cabins and campers. Applicant must have valid driver’s license, no major moving violations on driving record, Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder preferred, and be at least 21 years of age. Current first aid and CPR is required. Salary: $3,500


Head Counselors (2):
are responsible for the minute to minute supervision of campers and for providing support to assigned counselors. Duties include supervising Waterfront Specialist and program staff, coordinating with other camp staff to provide programming and participating in weekly staff meetings. Applicant must have current Life Guard or Water Safety Instructor and Small Watercraft certification and experience supervising pool and lakefront aquatics activities and be at least 21 years old.


Assistant Program Managers: are responsible for assisting in the day to day supervision of program and staff. Assistant Program Managers provide mentoring and guidance to staff and campers, and act in the role of counselor or program staff during absences. Applicant must be 21 years of age or older, and possess current CPR and First Aid certification. Salary: $6,427.00


Waterfront Specialist: provides instruction and supervision to campers during swim and boating lessons. The Waterfront Specialist assists the Program Manager in monitoring skill levels of campers and managing supplies and equipment. This position also provides supervision to campers during the pre-camp program and may also provide supervision to campers in the locker room. Minimum age of 18, and current Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid required. Wage: $11.06 per hour

Lifeguard: This position provides look out support to the swim lesson and boating programs. Lifeguards coordinate with the Waterfront Specialist to provide supervision and program to campers during all aquatic activities. This position also provides supervision to campers during the pre-camp program. Minimum age 18. Current Life Guard, first aid and CPR certification required..  Wage $11.06 hour

Counselors will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. Counselors will be required to participate in swim lessons, boating, and all of the activities that are a part of the Caterpillar program. Applicants must have previous experience working with pre-school children. Minimum age 18, current first aid and CPR certification required.

Trail Starter Counselor (6):works with campers ages 6-7, and is responsible for the minute to minute supervision of campers. Counselors are assigned groups of 8 campers, and work with this group planning activities such as outdoor and cooperative games, crafts, nature and outdoor living skills activities. Counselors will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. Counselors will be required to participate in daily swim lessons, boating, archery, and all of the activities that are a part of the Trail Starter program. Applicants must have previous experience working with School Age Children. Minimum age 18, current first aid and CPR required.

Trail Seeker Counselor (6): works with campers ages 8-9, and is responsible for the minute to minute supervision of campers. Counselors are assigned groups of 8 campers, and work with this group planning activities such as crafts, nature, outdoor and group initiative games, outdoor living skills and archery. Counselors will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. Counselors will be required to participate in daily swim lessons, canoeing, kayaking, and indoor rock climbing. Applicants must have experience working with School Age children. Minimum age 18, first aid and CPR certification required.
Wage: $11.06 hour


Outdoor Adventure Counselor (3): works with children ages10-13, and is responsible for the minute to minute supervision of campers. Counselors are assigned a group of 10 campers, and work with this group planning activities such as crafts, nature, outdoor and group initiative games, outdoor living skills, archery and off site trips. Counselors will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. Counselors will be required to participate in daily swim lessons, canoeing, kayaking, indoor rock climbing and off site trips. Outdoor Adventure Counselors also plan and implement special interest programming with campers that include activities such as fine art, skate boarding, day hiking, bike riding and other more skill based activities. Applicants must have experience working with older School Age Children, and have experience in one of the special interest program areas. Minimum age 18, current first aid and CPR required. Wage: $11.06 hour


Before and After Camp Counselors (4): part time positions working with all ages of children at camp. Counselors provide minute to minute supervision of children participating in the before or after camp program. Counselors plan and implement less structured activities including table games, outdoor games, and craft projects. Counselors will assist parents in checking campers into and out of camp program, and will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. May be combined with other part time positions to increase hours. Applicants must have experience working with children. Minimum age 18, first aid and CPR certification required.. Before Camp Program Schedule 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. After Camp Program Schedule 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Wage: $11.06 hour

 2010 Rural Alaska Program
Located in rural Alaska communities. Program Staff teams live in and provide programs for children in the village. Staff teams typically visit three to four villages over the summer. Most room and board is provided through the summer.



Rural Program Coordinator:: is responsible for assisting in the pre-season preparation of program, including community contact and relationship development, supply procurement, organization and shipping and assists in the planning and implementation of staff orientation. The Rural Program Coordinator will assist with the coordination of staff transportation between sessions, when necessary. This position is responsible for organizing the end of season close out, inventory and paperwork. This position will be based at Camp Kushtaka during the season, while staff are in communities assisting with the program management as required.
Salary: $6000 for 12+ week season, including room and board.

Program Staff: Camp Fire hires 8-12 counselors a summer that are responsible for planning and implementing two week Day Camps in rural communities in Alaska. This includes collaboration with your program team and supervision of the children attending the program in all activities. The rural program curriculum includes overnight campouts, swimming in cold water, games and other activities. Specialized skill in crafts, backpacking; nature studies etc. are a plus. This position requires persons with current life guarding certification (or strong enough swimming skills to participate in a life guarding course). This position requires persons who have demonstrated skills in working with children, youth program planning, working with minimal supervision, and who are at least 19 years old. This position demands cross cultural sensitivity, teamwork and endurance, but is one of the more unique staff positions we have to offer.
Salary-- $3,000 for field staff, $3,200 for senior staff.

Employment in Camp Fire’s other summer programs may be possible after finishing the rural program.

OUTDOOR PROGRAM EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION PROCESS
Complete an Employment Application and return it to the Camp Fire office.
Three positive references are required for employment. You must distribute the forms on the summer application to the individuals listed on your application.
Upon review of application, Camp Fire personnel may schedule an interview.
These are conducted by phone (for individuals living outside of Anchorage or the Valley) and generally take about 45 minutes. You will be asked to relate some stories about your experiences working with youth, and have an opportunity to ask questions.

OUTDOOR PROGRAM EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
If offered a position with Camp Fire USA for summer programs, you will be required to submit the following information before you start employment:
COMPLETED HEALTH HISTORY . You will be provided with a form to complete that outlines your medical history.
COMMUNITY CPR & STANDARD FIRST AID CERTIFICATION
You must bring copies of the certifications with you.
COPIES OF ALL PERTINENT OTHER SAFETY CERTIFICATIONS. If you have training in any safety, health or other certifications, bring copies of them with you.
