 School Year Programs
The School Age Child Care Programs provide licensed before -and after-school child care for elementary youth in 28 elementary schools in Anchorage. The programs continue throughout the summer, providing full-day programs. Staff may choose to work before school, after school, or both.


The Community Center Programs are year round neighborhood-based after and/or before school programs. Staff hours at all programs include set-up, clean up, planning, and training time, which may occur outside of actual hours of operation. There are 3 centers in Anchorage.


  School Year Program Jobs

Site Director
These are management level positions responsible for activity and program development, data management, staff and environment development and community relations. We are looking for candidates who have previous experience with youth development, supervision and program delivery. Must have or be willing to achieve 12 credit hours in the youth development field and be 21 years or older. These are part time positions with a minimum of 30 hours per week. Salary range is $14.31 - $16.09.

Child Development Leader
These are supporting management positions responsible for maintaining quality program in the absence of the Site Director.  We are looking for candidates who are seeking experience in an entry level management position in a youth development program. Must have or be willing to achieve 12 credit hours in the youth development field and be 21 years or older. Part-time, min 25 hours per week. Salary range is $11.79 - $14.41.

Program Staff
Staff may work before school only, after school only, or both. Responsible for implementing the program with an assigned group of children. Requirements include high school/GED equivalent, some training or background in child/youth development, education or recreation. Experienced working with children. Must be 18 years of age or older. Part-time, min 25 hours per week. Starting Salary: $10.50 per hour.

Program Aide
Part-time positions for high school students. Training provided includes working with children, program planning and management, and leadership skills. Requirements for the position are 16 - 18 years of age, demonstrated leadership and organizational ability, prefer child development classes and some experience caring for children. Starting Salary: $7.91 per hour.

 



2012 Summer Outdoor Programs & Jobs

Camp Fire offers seasonal summer camp employment at Camp K on Kenai Lake (resident camp on Kenai Lake), Camp Si-La-Meo (day camp in Anchorage) or the Rural Alaska Program (travelling recreation camps to rural communities). Through these outdoor programs, children are provided with the support and opportunities needed to become caring, confident youth and future leaders. Community living, away from home in a recreational outdoor setting provides a foundation for tremendous growth for campers and staff alike.
 

Camp K on Kenai Lake - Jobs


Health Manager/Nurse/EMT: is responsible for the management of the camp health plan, including reviewing camper health histories, dispensing medications, coordinating with camp staff and local physicians to manage camper care, responding to first aid needs at camp, and maintaining the health facility and equipment in excellent condition. Current RN certification for the State of Alaska is required (application by endorsement from other states is available), as well as first aid and CPR. Salary: $700/week


Kitchen Manager/Cook: is responsible for daily management of the camp kitchen and supervision of two kitchen assistants. Duties include menu planning, food ordering, inventory control, kitchen health and sanitation and cooking nutritious and appealing foods for campers and staff. Must have current CFPM certification. Salary: $450-$470/week


Kitchen Assistants: are responsible for the daily routine of running an effective food service environment. Duties include dish washing, cleaning and sanitization of food service areas, assisting with food preparation and helping unload, store and inventory supplies. Must have current Alaska Food Worker Card. Salary: $220/week


Program Manager: assists Camp Director in the planning and facilitation of camp program, as well as supervision of camp staff, and in the planning and presentation of staff orientation, large group events, and special programs. This position requires an applicant who has demonstrated skills in camp organization and supervision, a valid driver’s license, no major moving violations on driving record, and is at least 25 years old. Current first aid and CPR is required. $370-$390/week


Waterfront Counselor: In addition to Counselor duties, the Waterfront Counselor is responsible for life guarding, and instructing canoe and kayak, swimming, and water survival activities on Kenai Lake, as well as planning and presentation of applicable staff orientation topics. This position requires current Life Guarding, Water Safety Instructor, and Small Craft certification, previous experience supervising lakefront and/or cold water activities, and a valid driver’s license, no major moving violations on driving record, and is at least 21 years old. Current first aid and CPR is required. Salary: $230-$245/week


Creative Arts Counselor: In addition to Counselor duties, the Creative Arts Counselors is responsible for planning and instructing arts & crafts, drama, and music activities for campers. Duties include coordinating with camp staff in developing program, maintaining program supplies and inventory, assisting with the supervision and monitoring of campers and cabins, as well as planning and presentation of applicable staff orientation topics. Applicants should have experience working with children, planning and teaching the creative arts, and are at least 18 years old. Current first aid and CPR is required. Salary: $230-$245/week


Out of Camp Trips Counselor: In addition to Counselor duties, responsible for operating camp vehicles to provide transportation to and from off-site activities, and to make off site trips for supply purchasing and in-town errands. Duties also include the maintenance and record keeping of camp vehicles, and the instruction and monitoring of proper vehicle safety. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, no major moving violations on driving record, and is at least 21 years old. Current first aid and CPR is required. Salary: $230-$245/week


Counselor: Supervise, interact and live with the campers in cabin groups, and are responsible for helping campers with daily living tasks, decision making, peaceful conflict resolution, community living, and for leading them in camp activities such as arts and crafts, archery, riflery, waterfront activities, hiking, cooperative games, outdoor living skills, and nature activities. This position requires applicants who have demonstrated skills and interest in working with children, and are at least 18 years old. Current first aid and CPR is required. Salary: $225-$245


Camp Aides: Interact with campers in cabin groups, and are responsible for helping campers with daily living tasks, decision making, peaceful conflict resolution, community living, and for assisting them in camp activities such as arts and crafts, archery, riflery, waterfront activities, hiking, cooperative games, outdoor living skills, and nature activities. This position requires applicants be at least 16 years old. Preference given to applicants with demonstrated skills and/or interest working with children, and previous camp experience. Current first aid and CPR is required. Camp Aide positions range from 3 to 8 weeks, and all are required to attend pre-camp staff orientation. Salary: $1,000 (for season)


Camp Si-La-Meo Jobs


Assistant Unit Leaders (3): are responsible for assisting in the day to day supervision of program and staff. Assistant Program Managers provide mentoring and guidance to staff and campers, and act in the role of counselor or program staff during absences. Applicant must be 21 years of age or older, and possess current CPR and First Aid certification. Salary: $7,508.00


Waterfront Specialist: provides instruction and supervision to campers during swim and boating lessons. The Waterfront Specialist assists the Program Manager in monitoring skill levels of campers and managing supplies and equipment. This position also provides supervision to campers during the pre-camp program and may also provide supervision to campers in the locker room. Minimum age of 18, and current Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid required. Wage: $11.06/hour


Lifeguard: This position provides look out support to the swim lesson and boating programs. Lifeguards coordinate with the Waterfront Specialist to provide supervision and program to campers during all aquatic activities. This position also provides supervision to campers during the pre-camp program. Minimum age 18. Current Life Guard, first aid and CPR certification required..  Wage: $11.06/hour

Nature/Outdoor Living Skills Counselor:
is responsible for developing and teaching nature, outdoor education and outdoor living skills activities. Duties include coordinating with staff to develop camp programs, maintaining supplies and inventory, assisting with camper supervision and participating in weekly staff meetings. Applicants should have experience working with children and in planning and instructing nature and OLS activities. Minimum age 18, current first aid and CPR required. Wage: $11.06/hour


Caterpillar Counselor (4): works with campers ages 4-5, and is responsible for the minute to minute supervision of campers. Counselors are assigned groups of 6 campers, and work with this group planning activities such as indoor and outdoor games, crafts, nature activities and quite story and rest time. Counselors will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. Counselors will be required to participate in swim lessons, boating, and all of the activities that are a part of the Caterpillar program. Applicants must have previous experience working with pre-school children. Minimum age 18, current first aid and CPR certification required. Wage: $11.06/hour


Trail Starter Counselor (8):works with campers ages 6-7, and is responsible for the minute to minute supervision of campers. Counselors are assigned groups of 8 campers, and work with this group planning activities such as outdoor and cooperative games, crafts, nature and outdoor living skills activities. Counselors will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. Counselors will be required to participate in daily swim lessons, boating, archery, and all of the activities that are a part of the Trail Starter program. Applicants must have previous experience working with School Age Children. Minimum age 18, current first aid and CPR required. Wage: $11.06/hour


Trail Seeker Counselor (8): works with campers ages 8-9, and is responsible for the minute to minute supervision of campers. Counselors are assigned groups of 8 campers, and work with this group planning activities such as crafts, nature, outdoor and group initiative games, outdoor living skills and archery. Counselors will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. Counselors will be required to participate in daily swim lessons, canoeing, kayaking, and indoor rock climbing. Applicants must have experience working with School Age children. Minimum age 18, first aid and CPR certification required. Wage: $11.06/hour


Outdoor Adventure Counselor (3): works with children ages10-13, and is responsible for the minute to minute supervision of campers. Counselors are assigned a group of 10 campers, and work with this group planning activities such as crafts, nature, outdoor and group initiative games, outdoor living skills, archery and off site trips. Counselors will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. Counselors will be required to participate in daily swim lessons, canoeing, kayaking, indoor rock climbing and off site trips. Outdoor Adventure Counselors also plan and implement special interest programming with campers that include activities such as fine art, skate boarding, day hiking, bike riding and other more skill based activities. Applicants must have experience working with older School Age Children, and have experience in one of the special interest program areas. Minimum age 18, current first aid and CPR required. Wage: $11.06/hour


Before and After Camp Counselors (4): part time positions working with all ages of children at camp. Counselors provide minute to minute supervision of children participating in the before or after camp program. Counselors plan and implement less structured activities including table games, outdoor games, and craft projects. Counselors will assist parents in checking campers into and out of camp program, and will assist campers in community building, to practice peaceful conflict resolution skills and in decision making. May be combined with other part time positions to increase hours. Applicants must have experience working with children. Minimum age 18, first aid and CPR certification required.. Before Camp Program Schedule 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. After Camp Program Schedule 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Wage: $11.06 hour

Rural Alaska Program & Jobs

Great summer opportunity with Camp Fire to serve Alaska's kids and engage rural communities! Travel to communities throughout the state from the Aleutians to the Arctic Circle bringing programs that focus on community engagement from youth to elders, outdoor recreation, and healthy life choices.

Staff teams provide two, three, or four-week long travelling day camp programs to rural communities. Primary duties include, developing and implementing quality youth and community programs. Activities may include swimming, cold water safety, hiking, biking, outdoor education, arts and crafts, group games, team building, cooking, and sports. Other components of the program include evening activities focused on teen and elder involvement including potlucks, camp fires with storytelling, camp outs, and more!

Staff must be comfortable travelling in small aircraft and living un-plugged in remote areas for extended periods of time. Cultural sensitivity and experience working with at- risk or underserved youth preferred. As swimming and cold water safety are important components of this program, current or past lifeguard, swim instructor or swift water experience preferred or may be required. BA/BS in community development, education, or outdoor recreation preferred. Minimum age of applicants is 21. Current First Aid and CPR required.

2012 Openings:
Senior Program Staff: will create and implement program, form community relationships, facilitate activities, and use advanced problem solving and decision making skills when needed. He/she will be primarily responsible for weekly check-ins with supervisors, required paperwork, and all other logistics involved in implementing program. Salary: $375-$425/week

Program Staff: will assist the senior staff in the creation and implementation of program, facilitate activities, assist with paperwork, build community relations, and help problem solve when necessary. Salary: $325-$350/week
