 School Age Program Jobs
The School Age Child Care Programs are licensed before -and after-school child care for elementary ages in 27 elementary schools in Anchorage and 2 in Fairbanks. The programs continue throughout the summer, providing full-day programs in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Staff may choose to work before school, after school, or both.


The Community Center Programs are year round neighborhood-based after school programs that operate 3:30-7:30 PM Monday-Friday. Staff hours at all programs include set-up, clean up, planning, and training time, which may occur outside of actual hours of operation. There are 3 centers in Anchorage and 2 in Fairbanks.

Site Director

Part-time, 30-35 hours per week. Responsible for organization of program at a site, supervision of staff, and parent relations. Qualifications: Experience working with children in a group and semi-structured setting, program planning, management, and staff supervision. Completed 12 credit hours in the field of childcare education. Demonstrated leadership ability and previous management experience preferred. Must be 21 years of age or older. Starting Salary: $13.75 per hour

Assistant Site Director (No positions currently available)
Part-time, 30-35 hours per week. Responsible for implementing the program with an assigned group of children, as well as assisting Lead Site Director with daily management tasks and act on behalf of the Lead Site Director (when absent from site). Qualifications: Experience working with children in a group and semi-structured setting, program planning, management, and staff supervision. Completed 12 credit hours in the field of childcare education. Demonstrated leadership ability and at least one year working directly in the field. Must be 21 years of age or older. Starting Salary: $11.54 per hour

Program Staff
Part-time, up to 30 hours per week. Staff may work before school only, after school only, or both. Responsible for implementing the program with an assigned group of children. Qualifications: Prefer high school/GED graduate, some training or background in child/youth development, education or recreation. Experience working with children. Must be 18 years of age or older. Starting Salary: $10.06 per hour.

Part-time positions for high school students. Training includes working with children, program planning and management, and leadership skills. Qualifications: 16 - 18 years of age, demonstrated leadership or organizational ability, prefer child development classes and some experience caring for children. Starting Salary: $7.52 per hour.

Three positive references are required for employment. Forms will be mailed to the references listed on the Application.
Upon review of application, Camp Fire personnel may schedule an interview.
If scheduled for an interview, you will be asked to obtain an Interested Persons Report (Criminal History Check) and bring it to the interview. The cost of the report is the responsibility of the applicant. You will be provided with information about obtaining the report.

2008 Summer Outdoor Program Jobs

Camp Fire offers seasonal summer camp employment at Camp Kushtaka (resident camp on Kenai Lake), Camp Si-La-Meo (day camp in Anchorage) or the Rural Alaska Program (water safety/remote day camp). Through these outdoor programs, children are provided with the support and opportunities needed to become caring, confident youth and future leaders. Community living, away from home in a recreational outdoor setting provides a foundation for tremendous growth for campers and staff alike.
Camp Kushtaka: Rustic and beautiful resident camp located 100 miles south of Anchorage on the shores of Kenai Lake in Cooper Landing. Summer positions are available in all areas of camp from the kitchen to cabin counselors. All positions include room and board and scheduled days off.
2008 Season: May 30 - July 30th.

This position requires current Life Guard or Water Safety Instructor certification as well as Small Craft certification and previous experience supervising lakefront and/or cold water activities. Out of Camp Trips Director: is responsible for coordinating with camp staff and counselors all out of camp trips schedules, to provide additional camper supervision during off site trips, for operating camp vehicles to provide transportation to and from off site activities and to make off site trips for supply purchasing and in-town errands. Duties also include the maintenance and record keeping of camp vehicles, and the instruction and monitoring of proper vehicle safety and assisting in the supervision and monitoring of cabins and campers.  2008 Rural Alaska Program  
Located in rural Alaska communities. Program Staff teams live in and provide programs for children in the village and are often away from Anchorage for weeks. Most room and board provided.

Program Staff: Camp Fire hires 8-12 counselors a summer that are responsible for planning and implementing two week Day Camps in rural communities in Alaska. This includes collaboration with your program team and supervision of the children attending the program in all activities. The rural program curriculum includes overnight campouts, swimming in cold water, games and other activities. Specialized skill in crafts, backpacking; nature studies etc. are a plus. This position requires persons with current life guarding certification (or strong enough swimming skills to participate in a life guarding course). This position requires persons who have demonstrated skills in working with children, youth program planning, working with minimal supervision, and who are at least 19 years old. This position demands cross cultural sensitivity, teamwork and endurance, but is one of the more unique staff positions we have to offer. Salary-- $2,300 plus incredible benefits in a cross cultural learning situation. Employment in Camp Fire’s other summer programs may be possible after finishing the rural program.

OUTDOOR PROGRAM EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION PROCESS

Upon review of application, Camp Fire personnel may schedule an interview.
These are conducted by phone (for individuals living outside of Anchorage or the Valley) and generally take about 45 minutes. You will be asked to relate some stories about your experiences working with youth, and have an opportunity to ask questions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Development is an integral leadership role in the continued success of Camp Fire USA Alaska Council. The Director leads a development program to create and implement strategies for all charitable giving particularly special campaigns, major gifts and planned giving.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Directs a comprehensive development program for the Council based on a formalized development plan, marketing strategy and budget that assures adequate funding for programs, services and special projects by securing financial resources from foundations, corporations and individuals.

Develops and implements long-range strategic priorities, advances the Council’s goals, and communicates a broad vision to the board of directors, volunteers, staff and community members raising funds and ensures coordination of efforts.

Manages all major gifts functions including donor prospecting, research, cultivation, stewardship and solicitation, planned giving and special fundraising campaigns.

Directs activities of the development department and provides leadership and direction to staff.

Oversees recruitment and orientation of volunteer leadership and insures a meaningful experience for volunteers.

Creates written materials for use with donor solicitations and communications and oversees development of campaign materials. Provides oversight to all council publications.

Participates in Council-wide strategic planning and budgeting initiatives.

Capacity to think strategically and initiate creative problem solving within the guidelines, policies, values and mission of the Council and is accountable for specific projects as assigned.

Exemplifies the council’s value statements, vision and mission in all actions, communications and relationships.

Ensures ethical compliance as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field plus advanced business and/or fundraising training. CFRE desired.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fundraising management, including experience with donor solicitation and capital campaigns.

Record of successful career growth leading to management responsibilities, including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives and manage performance of a development team. Ability to foster an environment of creativity and professional growth.

Knowledge of current and evolving trends in major gifts giving and solicitation and capital campaigns.

Demonstrated success in asking for and closing major gifts and building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as major donors, foundations and corporations.

Superb communications and presentation skills; ability to persuasively communicate the vision, mission and values of Camp Fire to diverse groups including major donors, corporate executives, board members and others who are critical to the organization’s growth and continued success.

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and attention to detail with an ability to navigate information systems.

Highly collaborative work style, able to balance implementation of specific goals and tasks with fostering cooperation and consensus.

Talent for communicating a compelling and inspired youth development vision and Camp Fire’s core mission.

RESPONSIBILITY/OVERSIGHT::
Oversees annual development plan and budget. Manages special campaign and budget, and ensures that campaign financial reports and prospect tracking reports are accurate and current. Oversees all campaign donor acknowledgements.

For special campaigns, acts as primary contact for assigned committees and tracks progress of every committee.

Design, implement and direct multiple projects, setting deadlines and ensuring program accountability.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work requires only minor physical exertion and/or physical strain. Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements.
